hi
last week i bought two autralian rainbowfish and they are fine but my friend who sold them to me doesnt know much about rainbowfish .well the thing is that i am purchasing a 100g aquarium and want to make it a community aquarium with all my fish that i have in my 20g and i want to add this type of rainbowfish that is half blue and half gold and i have no idea what they are called so if you could help me it would be great also please send me a pic if you want

Hmmmmm, the closest to that description that I can think of is the Boesmani Rainbow. http://www.fish2u.com/rabzr.html The blue will turn into a purple-ish color on some of the males, but they really are quite a stunning fish. Also, I highly recommend you buy from the link I provided based on personal experience. They get the majority of their rainbows from local breeders and tend to have the best looking fish available on the market. Hope I was able to help! :)

gee thanks that was exactly what i was looking for now that i know the name i ll order from my local suplier its less cmplicated than all th credit card and delivery stuff but thanks a lot for yo help this site is awesome

ref bozeman rainbow fish

I have bozeman rainbow fish that have been living in my tank for over 4 years. They like to be kept in groups and they love blood worms. They grow to about 4-5 inches. They are very peaceful and will not harm other smaller fish. They do need room to swim.

ALong with the Bosmani Rainbows, you could add the new guinea reds, red iranians, turquoise and the list goes on. They are wonderful community fish and they also Love cucumber!!!

I have a 65 with a single boesmani, australians, celebese, banded, madascar, threadfin, dwarf neon's, red irian, and a couple unidentified species as well. it is a very lively bunch and there is a lot of flaring and displaying going on. the red irians seem to be the most aggressive of the bunch. we have a spawning mop in one end of the tank to see what might happen and one red irian has taken over that side of the tank and won't allow another rainbow within a foot of the mop and we havn't figured out why yet. He did learn not to mess with the angel or congo tetras though (they both gave him a whoopin). these would be great fish to have in your 100. rainbows for the most part can put up with aggressive fish and won't harm smaller fish. if you have very small fish that are just intimidated by larger fish, there might be a problem there but there will be no aggression. rainbows seem to be an under-appreciated aquarium fish, maybe due to their size and cost. cya, kyle

No problem at all! Glad I was able to help. Rainbows are among my favorites. As snakeskinner said above "rainbows seem to be an under-appreciated aquarium fish" so it's nice to see someone else taking an interest!

As for the mail order bit, they arrive straight to your house! Doesn't get much easier than that. ;) It's really a much easier process than you think. Also, you would be getting the fish straight from the source instead of through a chain of fish dealers. If you can, see who your store orders their fish from. "Ekk Well" is one of the largest whole sellers and has the best rainbow size and quality I've seen. Good luck and keep us posted! :)

Can anyone give a few good links for web sites about rainbow?

As I'm in the process of swapping over from tetra species to rainbows. About a month ago I bought 30 small neon blue rainbows. The only reason i bought them was because they had the adults in the tank next to them and looked impressive. I was told that they had been breeding is someones backyard pond.
