Next time my JD have babies i want to try to raise some fry. Can i use a 5 gallon tank to raise them to be a little bigger? how long after they hatch before i should remove them?

I used a 10 Because its what I had. I put a sponge filter in the main tank till the fry were free swiming and then I set up the Fry tank. I waited a few weeks after the fry were swiming but the parents kept every other fish at bay till then. If you want once they are free swiming take a few out each week, but the ones that you leave with the parents will grow larger and faster then the ones you take out.

i would have to agree with him, using a 10g, more space for water change and things a little off. Use a sponge filter or a power filter on slow gph with poly on intake. Feeding baby brine shrimp and move up to finly crumpled flakes. with daily water changes or at least every other day. If ur best use RO water for best sucess, 33cents/g at wal-mart, just 1g a day water change. With RO they will grow faster, be in better health too.
