Raising pH?

Hi all I'm normally in the Marine forums but I do have a 55 gal. tropical freshwater tank.
Can I use Kent marine superbuffer in freshwater? I was told I could but I wanted back up. Also, if using baking soda how much should I use to slowly raise it?

what's the ph of your water and why do you want to raise it?
