Hi! I'm setting up my first 29g fish tank. Right now I plan to have 1 or a mated pair (if I happen to find them) of Bolivian Rams as the centerpiece fish, but I'm very open to suggestions for other good hardy dwarf cichlids for a beginner in this size tank. I would like to have a school of very pretty sparkly or colorful mid- high level dither fish in the tank as well. I don't really like neon, Cardinal, or X-ray tetras. I like Congo tetras but was told they need a bigger tank. I'm considering diamond tetras or dwarf neon rainbows but I don't know if either would work. I would appreciate any suggestions for dither fish including how many I should have in a 29g. Also, if there are any other beautiful fish that I could add just a couple of to the mix please let me know! Thanks

I too think Congos are too big for a 29gal. Diamonds would be nice, but IMO, gets too tight in a 29gal too. Dwarf Neon Rainbows would be a little too large too.

Is there a color you want?? Pick a color, then get the fish to match.

I would love something that reflects multiple shimmery colors/has a sparkle or maybe some red. I would love your suggestions. Since I'm new it's hard to just pick based on a color.

I just saw a suggestion that red paradisefish could be kept with dwarf cichlids. Could I throw 1 male in with the Bolivian Ram/Rams as another feature fish?

I do not have any experience with ParadiseFish, but I know they are very aggressive. But I do not know if they are just aggressive against other Gouramis, or all fishes.
