Hey everyone my rams spawned again last night and woke up this morning to eggs on another small rocks. Sadly last time a little over a month ago my rams spawned but the eggs didn't hatch. I am wondering if you can give me any advice so they will hatch this time. I removed my old betta from the tank because he was being chased relentlessly by the rams. He is now in a 30g with 3 female swordtails. My guppies in the tank however can fend for themselves because the 30g is still cycling. The rams are acting more like parents now taking time to guard the eggs and chase off any guppies that come near. The tank is a 29g medium planted. Any advice would be appreciated.

Ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates normal. Can't find my pH test kit but I am pretty sure it is around 7.5-8.0.

Hardness?

while not always necessary a lower ph and softer water may help - discus buffer is what I use to achieve this. My first two spawns ever went white and never hatched. Once I got my parameters in order successful breeding was easy. JME

Thank you I will see if I can lower the pH. How many days till they hatch? I was told about three days is this true.

Hatching time depends on water temp but you should be looking at about 60 hours from when they were first laid until you start to see wigglers. I've seen them in as little as 44 hours but it usually doesn't take longer than 60 hours for me.

Also, I have a GH of 300+ ppm and a pH of 7.8-8.0 and my 50% wilds had over 95% fertility consistently. You don't need soft and acid water. I say leave it alone. You will be more likely to harm the eggs by messing around trying to get "perfect water", which really isn't necessary as I've seen time and time again with my rams. My discus also spawn in the same stuff but they are in a community tank and wigglers are always eaten.

Just like last time the eggs disinigrated somehow. They weren't eaten and they were clear, not white so I assume they were fertile. Any thoughts?
