Hi all! :)

I've been tossing around the idea of turning my 46-gal community tank into an amazon river biotope. I favor a bunch of small fish over one or two big ones, so I was thinking about getting rams, namely German Blue Rams and Bolivian Rams. I've gotten very attached to my female betta, so I don't really want to take her to the LFS and trade her in. From what I've heard, German Blue and Bolivian Rams are pretty peaceful, and I was just wondering if having them in the same tank as my female betta would be fine.

Thanks! :D

Should be fine, Rams are peaceful enough and I have never really seen an aggressive female Betta. Even a male would probably be fine. I mean every fish is different so you could have problems but I really doubt it.

rams with betta

I have a male betta who is docile to al my other fish even my pygmy rasborsas, but for some reason has a thing for dwarf cichlids. he would regularly display to me krib who is about 40% bigger. He killed my nannacara in two days. I would watch carefully if you mixed the two. Rams are sensitive fish and though your betta is a female the possibility exists they won't get along, though when I had a female it worked. Your best chance of sucess with rams is a species tank or one where the rams (esp. german blue) are the top dogs.

My sister had 4 in a 29G tank and 1 beat up on rest of them until there was only 1 left.

I have germans in with my male betta. The male betta chases the german rams, but there are several, so the harassment is distributed. That being said, I think a female betta would do fine with rams in a smallish aquarium.

That's probably because bettas can't go with other bettas.

Only males are generally aggressive to each other, females should be fine, but then again it depends on the individuals. i had 2 females in a 55g. and I'm pretty sure one killed the other, because i did see some chasing, can't really tell though.

I don't think Harmony (the betta) will be of any threat to a ram. She's sassy, but she's very nice to her tankmates. I was worried more about the rams starting something, because I've heard they can get territorial. It's a fairly big tank and I won't have a huge fish load, so there shouldn't be any disputes, but she's one of my favorite fish and I don't want to put her into any danger.
