What colors are possible in common brown ramshorn snails? I literally picked these guys out of the muck of a pond. Now that I am paying closer attention to their (very prolific) spawnings, though, I have noticed that not all of them are solid brown like their parents. I have some solid browns, some spotted golden or browns, and what appear to be a few white/clear or very light brown/gold snails. I'm wondering if maybe I can breed out a few more colorful (or at least different) critters for a 1.5 gallon invertebrate tank I'm planning for a Christmas gift for two of my little brothers (and some in my tank wouldn't hurt ;) ), or if I shouldn't put too much effort into trying to make anything special out of DNA soup.
Any recommendations for other easily maintained (and snail-friendly) invertebrates for a 6 year old and a 10 year old would be lovely, too. I'm thinking some kind of shrimp...

i started off with just 5 reds. now i have red, brown, leopards, albino, blue's and i have had a few glass snails, which dont seem to survive to adult hood though.
