ramshorn over-poplulation

And regarding red ramshorns, do they eat plants? If so, what about java fern?

The java ferns in my Malawi tank are being picked to shreds and I want to put them in my smaller, soon-to-be-planted community tank.

I just have regular hitchhiker ramshorns, but they never have bothered my plants. Sometimes they eat algae from the leaves. Not enough to count them as algae control, but I like seeing them climb on the plants.

I wish I could keep snails in all my tanks but my keyhole cichlids gobble them right up. Thought I'd mention that for anyone looking for a snail eater, besides puffers or loaches.

daayda, takes this from some who has a thousand pond snails...

DON'T WORRY MON! they are completely harmless and as long as you don't feed too much and clean often they will not get out of control. in fact, the fact you have 2 different kinds will keep their numbers down since they compete with each other for food. as you can see, there really is no point in trying to get rid of them. they do no harm and actually do good. a modest population will be fine, and most likely it will stay modest now that you know more about aquariums.
