Has anyone ever done a waterchange(20%) and then seen all their snails sunk to the bottom retracted into their shells? Im seeing it in my bare bottom 20g guppy tank.

I was reading that having the tank too hygenic can cause the snails to do this, but wanted to see if anyone had experienced it?

Snails introduced after residents were retracted behaved normally. Snails moved out of the tank to another tank pretty much immeadiately woke up. its been more than 24 hours and all but one or 2 of the ones I didnt pull out are still retracted. Guppies are absolutely thriving.

Water quality is great. Im not testing for chlorine but had a bubbler on the water for the change for 24 hours so I think that should be ok. Temperatures were same.

I dont get it.

Any ideas?

just a squirt of stress coat.

I would think if it was a chemical in the water then the added snails would retract also, but they dont.

Im also not seeing the problem in my other tanks. But Im doing double the water changes on the guppy tank and since its bare bottom more gunk gets vacuumed out. Otherwise I cant think of any difference, or anything "special" about that tank.

I just counted. 4 snails up 6 down in the tank. Of the ones I have QTed 3 retracted about 15 up.

i havnt had any problem with any of my snails after huge w/c sometimes 75%
it actually induces my apples to lay there eggs after a huge w/c
