Why is it that stores / ebay sellers etc list something as in stock, when they have no stock? I am trying to find a birthday present for my wife's birthday, a little over a week away. I have now ordered the same set of lamps from 3 different places, all of them being fine to take my order, take my money and then call me back to tell me they don't actually have any in stock.

The last one I ordered from was an ebay seller, they had a great feedback rating, listed 5 sets as available, so I ordered a set. Now 4 days later, they call me to say they don't have any of that particular set, but I can choose another.... I don't want another!!! I want the one I ordered!! So now I have to cancel yet another order, and wait for the money to appear back in my PayPal / Bank Account and attempt to find somewhere else selling the lamps that I want.

Soooooooooooooo annoying. If you don't have something in stock, don't accept orders!! the ebay listing is still active and now shows 4 sets available......... Grrrrrrrrrr

I know! alot of sellers do that with halloween costumes too! I think ebay should make a rule against listing something you dont have.

I agree, there should be a rule against this type of practice. The problem is 2 of the 3 places I ordered from were not even ebay stores / sellers.

I hope you hit them with a negative feedabck so at least others can be warned. It shouldn't be allowed :(

Wow... Really? Negative feedback should actually be used for bad service, not the sort of eventuality that will ultimately come up in the course of any business. Keeping stock updated in real time is a serious pita especially if your inventory system is not computerized. I run the website for our brick and mortar business, and let me tell you, it is waaay easier to shoot off an email or call someone than it is to constantly have to de list and re list items as they come in and out of stock. Instead of just trying to purchase the lamp every time you see it listed, why not just shoot a mass email to every retailer that has it listed, and make sure one of them actually has it in stock before breaking out the paypal. Saves you the trouble of having to field multiple orders as well as the stress of constantly being disappointed and having to wait for a refund.
