corona, ca
im sure this is going to get some uproar, but i dunno, this has been bugging me for a while. i am by no means an expert on fish keeping. i make blunders too, all the time.

BUT WHY DOES IT SEEM LIKE SO MANY PEOPLE ARE TOO LAZY TO GOOGLE SEARCH ANYTHING???!!!!! OR JUST LURK THE BOARD AND SEE IF SOMEONE ELSE HAS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM!!!!

GAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

basic answers to basic questions...

1) when asking a question here, WE NEED TO KNOW AS MUCH ABOUT YOUR WATER PARAMETERS AS IS HUMANLY POSSIBLE other than "theres water in the tank." if you are unwilling to get the appropriate items to care for your fish properly, please give your fish to good homes and find another hobby

2) RESEARCH HOW TO CYCLE A TANK. there are about a bazillion threads on how to do this.

3) RESEARCH THE FISH YOU ARE GOING TO BUY BEFORE BUYING THEM. pet stores only know so much about their fish, but are often ignorant on the details; their main objective (a lot of the time) is to make money off of your ignorance. it is your job to find out what your fish need in order to live a long, healthy life. your pets will be so much happier in the proper environment with the proper feeding regimen. find out how many of them you need to keep together.

ok, i feel better now

:iagree:

But being the family friendly site we are we answer the questions over and over again. Sometimes our members don't know enough about our site yet or even how to google or so it seems. Some members haven't been on a computer very long. Many times they come here with an emergency situation and nned an answer fast. Sometimes posting is the fastest way to an answer.

i went to petco last night and was dying. one of the staff seemed to know what they were talking about. they were arguing with a customer about his tank choices and refusing to sell fish to them. they guy had a 10 gallon and wanted to stuff a bunch of neons, a couple of african cichlids and a pleco into it.

i stepped in to back up the employee.

but jeez looeez people. GOOGLE IS AN AMAZING RESOURCE. people need to use it more.

Chill....That's why this is called a discussion forum. I find that no matter how often you discuss the same topic that something/someone always brings more perspective, different perspective to the conversation.

As far as supplying water parameters and such, if you need it to help someone then politely ask.
There are folks that visit this forum that are sometimes panicked and in need of help immediatley and haven't taken the time to read the sticky's.

Lastly, if giving help so upsets you then by all means stop. There are plenty others here that dispense advice, very good advice, without rants.

JMO.:grinyes:

but heres the thing...

there would be a lot less repetetiveness if people would research BEFORE they buy stuff.

maybe im a wierdo, but i research pretty much EVERYTHING before i try jumping into it...it seems much more logical and safer and cost effective to do so.

erm,i thought this site was here to help, when i first came onto this site i was in a hurry,i googled something like fish forum or aquarium forum, cant remember now,and this came up,hence me appearing on here, but i didnt have much time,i couldnt sit and read through everything at that time, and yes i probably have asked some of the newbie repetitive questions before,as many many people have and will do. surely if you dont wish to give the same advice over and over, just dont read those threads-just my opinion, but surely people coming on here and asking is better than leaving their fish living in terrible conditions just because they dont have the time to read or want to annoy by asking.

I kind of ignore the really noob questions though I do occasionally help out as a good samaritan sort of idea.

I'm pretty new to the forum too though not to the hobby.

even tho google is a great tool..you have to take everything with a grain of salt.

remember the internet may contain a wealth of information..some good..some ..well..not so good.

the Nitrogen cycle is a part of biology..I am under the impression it may not be covered as well these days as in the past.
even when the information is available.. it may not be as easy to put it into practice.
keep in mind,..there are 'stickies' that are available here to use..an option that also seems to get by many.
