we have to also keep in mind this is an international community.
we may view some folks as rude when in fact their culture encourages them to speak their mind. they are not rude in their eyes..and they rarely are trying to offend. It's just the way they communicate.

I think that is the best answer I've heard yet!

One of the problems is that they may have limited funds and refuse to hear that they need to purchase "XYZ" to solve the problem. As of late I have been hearing "Oh my friend says.......................and he doesn't have a large tank.............." The advice has just been wasted.

I absolutely detest the ones that give advice about a fish they have never owned and raised because the advice is often incorrect. I try to politely tell them they are wrong and I come across as sour grapes because they may have to "work" to correct a problem. There seems to be a great reluctance to put forth effort to raise the fish correctly.
exactly the reason why I stay away from anything dealing with african cichlids or anything marine. just not my thing.

This is part of the reason I have remained away for so long. I have tried to help someone here before, along with many others, only to have the imbecile continue to add more animals than he could handle. I got a sore lump on my head from hitting it on the wall. Leaving, for me, was an act of self preservation.

There is one word that most of the forum posters need to learn about 'google' 80% of the problems posted on here are not unique whatsoever and a simple google search and an hour of your time would save us the headache of answering a question a hundred times.

There are different ways of finding answers on the internet. I wouldn't fault someone who prefers a personal interaction with someone over pouring through various websites, many of which give conflicting information. Anyone can create a website with their personal opinions presented as fact. At a forum you get a melting pot of different ideas and suggestions from people you have come to respect and trust. If it's such a "headache" just leave it and let someone else answer it.

seems lately, newer members comming in looking for advice, and ignores the advice given... i was once a newb. and was like that, thought i knew everything.. but i found out i dont, and need more advice at times, even if i have been keeping fish for 12 years... learning new things everyday :) so to all the new members looking for advice, if you make a thread asking for one, accept the advice and look into it....... dont just ignore the advice..
