I saw Rare blue Jack Dempsey's today at my local LFS, 60.00. How I wish I had my 75 gallon setup right now. Preuss Animal House in Lansing Michigan has an awesome setup. Over 20,000 square feet of space in there pet shop. Jack Dempsey's are awesome fish.

And you didn't buy one for me and ship it out? Well!;)

 JD's are beautiful. My second favorite ('O's are # 1). Mine is still growing & has an excellent personality.

Good luck, "T"

is this the electric blue JD??

I know there was a bad batch of these electric blue JD's last year.

they are very colorful JD's tho..

That's a normal JD star_rider, tonytheboss just wanted to share his gorgeous JD; thanks for sharing Tony!

However, if you like normal JD's, a pacific blue dempsey may not be the right choice for you. I say that it may not be the best choice because these fish might as well be seperate species due to the vast difference between the two.

Pacific blues are peaceful (they will eat smaller fish, but that's true for almost every fish out there), reports claim they stay smaller (I'll see where mine max's out), and they're fragile when young, which is the most common size to find them at for sale due to price. $20 for 1 inchers here in socal.

It's said that you'll have great success with these fish if you get them past 3-4"

Oh, and I wouldn't consider it a "rare" fish, but they do seem to be semi-seasonal.

HUH??

Whats so rare about these fish?? Have a ton here, saw one today for 49.00.

So many factors go into determining the "rarity" of this fish (i.e. whether or not the LFS wants to carry it, whether or not weather in your area allows this fish to be ordered year round, etc...), I wouldn't call it rare, unless used in the context of the LFS's acquiring of it.

It can't be held against Emperor_400, it's probably just his/her first time seeing them for sale.

SoCalSunset,
I was referring to emperor_400's remark about 'rare' blue JD's

tony is showong a beautiful normal JD.

there was a run of EBJD's last year..these eectric blue JD's had a problem..avid and experienced cichlid keepers were losing the fish after a few months..the JD's never reached maturity and it was believed that there may have been a genetic problem with the fish.

I know only a few which made it to nearly full size.

these JD's were a brilliant blue color..but very difficult to maintain.
