Does anyone know if a Scarlet Gem Badis would eat adult RCS ? I have some juvies which are coming up on adult size soon and I'm looking to introduce a few fish into my RCS tank but I don't want to go the boring route of guppies/platies/mollies etc.

Also, what about an american flag fish ?

Thinking if I can't do the fish thing I may sell my RCS.

umm.. I think the scarlet badis may eat babies once it reaches adult size.
Flag fish are waaaay too mean for the shrimp

You may be able to do CPDs, Merah Rasboras, Mosquito Rasboras, and Dwarf Maculata Rasboras. I've also seen people with neons and cardinals but I'm definitely sure they eat the babies as with most fish.

I had this exact question also. Dario dario is pretty small, only about 1 inch when full grown I think(?) Might eat some of the babies/juvies but RCS are fairly prolific breeders... also might look at something like white cloud minnows maybe? they're pretty tiny.

Well, I would really like to get the dario just because of its similarity to cichlids and I don't have a large enough tank for those.. yet. I do plan on getting one eventually.
There just doesn't seem to be much info on them out there that I can find yet. I'll keep looking.

:) Ty for the replies!

Gwynne - you should not have any trouble keeping the scarlet badis with adult cherry shrimp. The badis is 1" at adult size. They are a very shy fish though so will appreciate plants. Forget the american flagfish.

I have Dario Dario, and when I first got them I introduced newly hatched wild type neo shrimp to the tank as a food source. I did not have my microworm culture at the time ( if you are thinking to get dario dario you WILL need live food like MW) and was doing shrimp and flakes. The fish would see these shrimp and would not care, the flakes not so sure but I was worried and needed to feed something.

I than bought yellow shrimp and found out most if not all wild types shrimp survived in a 20 gallon tank with 6 dario dario. The wild type shrimp were mid-adult size.

Can Dario Dario eat adult RCS?
No, I have berried and adult yellow shrimp with my dario dario and fish do not mess with the shrimp.

Celestrial Pearl Danios
I have heard that CPDS are notorious shrimp hunters. I had some RCS in the tank and they were able to breed.

If you are thinking of getting dario dario, make sure to have a live food source beforehand.
