ok i had to get a new filter for my 10gal since the one i had wasnt doing good. anyway my tank was already cycled and when i put the new filter in i drained out the bio bag onto the new to get some bacteria into it. but im wondering is it still going to go through a cycle again and if it dose will it be shorter or take the same amount of time or whats gunna happen

Putting a new filter media will put your tank into a mini cycle since majority of nitrifying bacteria is in your filter media. This mini cycle will be very short since this beneficial bacteria is present elsewhere such as surface of gravel, ornaments and other surfaces.

Why did you replace your filter media? Many aquarist replace their filter media as last resort. Such as when they are so bad they are coming apart adding waste to the tank. Other wise simply clean the filter media in the tank water during water change and replace carbon once a month or 2 depending on need.

he didn't just replace the bag he replaced the filter because it didn't work. if you could have you could habe put the whole bio bag in your filter to prevent the mini cycle which should be almost unnoticed if it goes smooth enough and your load is small enough.

Sorry didn't read it carefully.
Either way the tank will go into a mini cycle due to loss of beneficial bacteria that was once present that could handle NH3 load.
That is until enough of a beneficial bacterial colony is restablished in your filter media which can handle the NH3 load produce by your fish.

thanks for the info ill keep an eye on my levels for the next couple of weeks.
i would have just put the old bio bag into the new filter but its a different filter that has a different media type which is alot better than my old one

old filter a whisper 10 (most of the water came back out the side where the intake was)
new filter a cascade clear 100 (one of my very good freinds who works at my lfs highly suggested it)
