Not enough tanks, space, or time

How about: Fluval 405, Fluval 404, 2 Whisper 60s, 1 pair albino senegal bichirs, 1 pair delhezi bichir, and 75%+ weekly water changes. Sound good? I will have lots of PVC pipes in there for low flow, relaxing hiding spots.

Fine, but why not just run one or two larger canisters (although 2 400 series Fluvals should be pretty good) and forget the Whisper HOBs?

Make certain that your top is secure and has no spaces that a breaching bichir could slip out of.

Try some cave/shelf rockwork instead of the PVC (it looks nicer and the bichirs will like it better), but leave some open swimming area for them, too.

The canisters usually don't provide the surface breaking/agitation that I like and get from the Whispers. I also already have all this filtration on the tank already except for the 404, which I have two of sitting around, so it's not like I'm investing in them new if that's what you are thinking. I already have the PVCs and all my current rock and woodwork is in other tanks (55 discus, 150 african peacocks, 40 community), but I will think about getting more stuff like that. I thought they would like the pipes better, why not?

I really do not know why, but I have found that all mine seem to prefer natural caves and wood over pvc...plus it looks a lot better.

One 404 or 405 should be enough for the stocking and size of tank you're planing. Bichirs aren't messy eaters like cichlids are so you don't really need to overfilter. Remember to leave at least an inch of airspace from the top. And by doing this you're actually moving the canister outlet nearer the surface of the water so you'll have plenty of surface agitation and won't need the whispers anymore. I use african driftwoods in mine and my bichirs love hiding under it. I also use some large broken clay pots as hiding spots. They look better than pvc pipes and does the same purpose.
