Ready to move beyond goldfish...

If you have mollies too, u may want to add a tiny bit of aquarium salt to the water.

This is a myth. Mollies, as well as any other type of freshwater fish
do not need any kind of salt in the tank for normal use.

If you slowing adding salt to the water Mollies can be fresh water, blakish, and even full salt water.

You just restated the myth in a different way. Do your research or ask Daveedka.

Not quite. The myth is, essentially, that mollies need extra salt added to their water. However, mollies can thrive in freshwater, brackish, and saltwater. One of the LFS that I frequent sells mollies that are acclimated to saltwater.

Yip the myht is that they are a BW fish and cannot live normal lives in FW. Wild sailfin mollies in Florida live in estuaries ranging from full salinity to fresh to brackish. Most mollies in fish stores are second, third or umpteen generation FW acclimated fish. So anyway, yeah.

Sorry to hear your Moor died. I had a 55 gal tank at one time that had 2 goldfish and 2 big snails. WHen I went to set up my tank again, my husband said "no goldfish"..they aren't near as interesting to watch as a community tank.

This was what I was saying. Kasakato, I misinterpreted your post. I took it as you saying they (the mollies you buy at local pet shops) are brackish water fish and need salt. That is a myth that we all seem to agree on, and in fact I was hoping someone would write up a quick explination on this to be put it in the Mythconceptions thread. It was my mistake. Sorry about that.

BTW, if anyone wants to write up a quick explanation of why goldfish aren't really beginner fish in the myth thread, by all means please do so! Helping and learning is what we are here for after all. :)

*edit*
Another BTW. The way Kissofthegorami stated mollies and salt sounds as if he believes it is a requirement. This is why I posted about it being a myth in the first place. Anyway, carry on.
