ready to upgrade lighting - have some questions...

I noticed that you guys are talking about MH bulbs on Ebay, they are everywhere on Ebay, if you search metal halide aquarium you will literally find hundreds of companies selling bulbs. I have no experience with buying them off Ebay YET, but I just bought a MH ballast off Ebay for $100.00 brand new (so they claim, it is a company!). It is a dual 175 Watt. I figure for $100.00 it is worth a try, I can always Ebay it again and get something for it, but the seller has a lot of good reviews and has sold dozens of them, so a leap of faith is what I am going with!
Anyways, on the bulbs, it might not be a bad idea to start a thread to see if anyone has experience with MH bulbs from Ebay, I am sure someone on this site knows something! What else is this forum (Site) for if we cannot share our experiences and find ways to save $$$.

With the bulbs it gets tricky with what color and what brand. I am going to test a few bulbs from fellow reefers I think. I don't care for the 10K and am thinking of going to 14K
I agree, and it seems shady to me that they don't mention a brand name at all. Personally, I've heard too many stories about off-brand light fixtures to risk it. I'm talking catastrophic failures too, like ballasts catching on fire and stuff.
I have heard a couple myself, so I plan to be careful! I have heard that to, but in the cases I have read about they were companies that refurbed old industrial ballasts. The rest, who knows, part of me wonders if some of those stories are urban legend?
As for bulbs, my curiosity is if there is no brand so what? The key thing would be to measure the lumens given off, right? Not that I have a lumen tester sitting around, but my point would be that it is something that could be tested, so if there are crooks out there on Ebay dealing in old warn out bulbs they could be had.
I figure for $25.00 or so on an Ebay bulb, you could get lucky, if not, it is $25.00. That is just my opinion.
