Hi All,

I live near the beach, and I was wondering instead of using any marine salt mixes for my brackish aquariums, would it be safe to go to the beach and fill up containers of sea water and use that to dilute fresh water into brackish water for my tanks? Your opinions on this would help. thanks!

I would not...you dont know what pollutants are within the seawater ( the average aquarist does not have access to lab cannot test for pollutants )...Not worth the risk, in my opinion...

If you're with the area of La Jolla, Scripts Aquairium has a free public access to the same water they use for their tanks. Its piped in from about a mile out in the ocean, and after their filter process. Alot of local people use it from what I understand. Check out sdreefs.com for any post about this.
