Really BIG Cories at LFS

I've seen HUGE corys that were labeled as green corys. Kind of like an albino with a shimmer

I've seen huge catfish at an aquairum place, it must have been more than a foot long! Blackish colored! My eyes nearly popped out when I saw that catfish of that size! I ain't got any clue what it might be called and as well for yours!

My guess is that you were looking at Brochis britskii. Great fish; I wish they were available around here. If you want to confirm your sighting, go to planetcatfish.com and do a search.

Yeah, I'm kind of frustrated with the labeling thing too, becuase I have what I bought as green corys, someone on the boards told me they were probably brochis splendens (sp?) and they look just like that too. But a place I went the other day only had the scientific name (don't remember it) and when I researched it they were bronze corys, who also look very much like what I have. Now I don't know what to buy b/c I wanted to expand the schools, and don't know if I have the monster corys or not :mad2: I have my work cut out for me!

This thread is a bit old, but I stopped by an LFS last night and saw these fishes labeled as Jumbo Brochis Cats going for $14.99 each. They look like giant versions of Emerald Catfish (Brochis Splendens). I know that Emerald Catfish only get up to about 3" but these Brochis were at least 4" long and 1+ inches high. Looking at planetcatfish.com, they could be Brochis Britskii (Giant Brochis), although they are definitely bigger than the 3.2" max size listed on planetcatfish. They are related to Cory catfish, but are really their own species, Brochis catfish.
