Thank you ALL for the rest of your comments. So the commen belief is guppies? I have some endler/guppy mutts now, but they arent that colorful at this point. i plan to use black gravel with some nice green (fake) plants and some java moss. I really was interested with Death Pony's post

Yes, these are complimentary colors. Red and green look good together; blue with orange; yellow with purple. Granted, you might like other combinations, but these set each other off nicely.
If you are okay with genetic modification (I am but many aren't), GloFish are super eye-catching and come in green, yellow, and pink. My husband really wants me to get them, but they like cooler water than any of my tanks. GloFish are genetically modified zebra danios, so they will like cooler temps than the average tropical tank.
Yes, those color combos will stand out the most when used together. What happens is the wants to focus on one color, but the complimentary color being on the opposite side of the color wheel diverts the eyes'/brain's focus from the original color to the complimentary.
Basically, the eye can only focus on one of those colors at a time, making the complimentary stand out even more. See, being an art major really does come in handy

here is a suggestion for you
get yourself some of those pretty dyed and tattooed fish they are pretty cool and come in a whole rainbow of colors that you dont see naturally occuring for their species. You could even get them so they look radioactive and glow in the dark

the gudgeon is a killer colorful and killi fish but make sure the top is covered they like to jump

it is such a hard decision!!! I have guppies already. I was thinking some mbunas.... i know of quite a few ppl keeping mbuna in a 29g. Can it be donee?
Mbuna can be kept in a 30 gallon which is 3 feet long. A 29 is not even 3 feet long so no they cannot be kept in a tank that small. They need at least a 3foot tank but most people say a 4 foot is needed. They are very aggressive.
