Hello

New to this forum, but not new to fish.

I really like Angels, but I have never felt comfortable enough in my fish keeping abilities to keep them.

When I originally began, I killed like 40 fish [due to over stocking, too much food, etc].:sad

Now though, I have kept 4 Bettas [Not Siamese Fighting Fish, Betta imbellius] in a ten gallon tank for about 1 month and a half.

I used to breed Guppies, but for the pass five years I have been moving from household to household for there isn't a lot of my family left alive.

---------------------------
Anyways, I have always loved Angels. And now I am comfortable with the fact that I am pretty knowledged with keeping fish again, hopefully.

The problem is, is that I have no room for a tank larger than 10 gallons and there is nothing I can do with the 4 Bettas I already have [they are only a year old each, and can live to be about 3 years if not older].

But I have noticed some very handsome gold Angels, with possibly blushing genes, at a local pet-store, which is supplied by an actual breeder.

-------------
I have an idea on what to do with the Bettas.

Use a cloth device, and seperate them from each other and the main section of the ten gallon tank.

Would that be cruel????
How many Angels would be able to stay in the rest of the tank [which is well forested]? The cloth device would be only 3 inches wide, so there is still 7 inches extending outwards of surface area.

Tell me if this question is too confusing.
And thanks for any help

I, myself, wouldn't do that at all. Angels can get pretty large, not enormous.

You would be making the tank smaller and cramped. That's not enough for the angels to move around.

IMHO.

I think you are looking at a minimum of a 20 gallon tank for 1 angel. They grow really tall. A 55 gallon tank would be best for 2.

Remember Angels are capeable of growing to around 6" in home aquaria. Also angels need some live plants and live in groups. I would say Go for angels only if you have atleast a 20 gal tank.

No angel can live comfortably and happily for the rest of it's life in a 10g. A 20g High is the minimum for a single angelfish, 29+ for a pair.

I agree with everyone here in that there is no way you would be able to fit even 1 angel comfortably in a 10 gallon, especially with the cloth device taking up even more room. With the said minimum being 20 gallons for 1, I would even go larger than that but for personal preference. I agree though, Angels are a lovely addition to the tank, hopefully you can find the room to get that 20+ gallon to experience them.

In my breeding experience with angelfish, pairs will even go sour if only given a 29g to survive. I often keep the adults, about 6-8 in a 75g tank and move a pair at a time to a 24" deep 30XH for breeding purposes. They stay there for no longer than 3-4 months at a shot.

I would never keep an adult angelfish in anything less than a 20H, and even then it wouldn't be an extended stay.

i agree with the above postings. i wouldn't keep more than 1 in a 20g high, and would recommend a 29g for even one! a 10g is definitely too small for a fish the size of angel, not only because of the sheer geometry of it, but because it will produce a lot of waste and foul the tank up fast, too. eh.

Thanks for all the replies.

I've decided against Angels.
