re: the koi, my father's pond isn't much larger than that -- maybe 10 x 5 in a corner shape much like yours -- and has some monster koi in it that he grew from fingerlings. total population is about 8 koi between 15 and 35 inches (rough guess) and a dozen feeder goldfish that are now dark red and 4 - 6" long. some of those koi could feed a family of 6 easily. ;-)

Thanks for the lil background story! Its given me some confidense knowing I can grow some decent sized koi in mine. I was thinking of just having a max of 6 koi in mine.
 
I an interested in your filtration and system. Could you post so pics of it in action?? I have an above ground pond and I used a 5 gallon bucket as well.
 
I haven't found a mat to really use as the mechanical filter yet so that and the lil pipe that will serve as an overflow aren't in. Is that what your interested in seeing?
 
The hole was probably made by a mole. Maybe a starnosed mole if it was the size of a golf ball.

What do you want koi for?! When I make my pond, I'm planning on putting a longnosed gar in it. I can forget about animals stealing it from the pond. In fact, animals better watch out!

How many gallons is your pond about?

Cuz theyre prettier and I dont have to bring it in during the winter :P That bringing it in during the winter is a HUGEEEE hassle. And a dark colored fish in a black pond would be harder to see than whites or reds. :\
 
True. Lol. If only I would stop to think before posting...

Did you do the wiring yourself or did you pay a professional to do it?
 
Its definitely not professionally done lol. I have an outdoor outlet built into the house so I just ran a heavy outdoor extension cord into pvc piping. Buried that and on the other side connected a GFI for safety.
