Pygmy cat. I have one in my 2.5 gallon. He is about 3/4 of an inch. You could throw a couple ghost shrimp in. Just be careful because the stupid things will attack other small fish.

You need to do more water changes than just when it gets cloudy. Every few days at a minimum.

welp, i've got 2 small cory cats in there now braving it. they're refugees from my tank. we'll see how they do. they're in a small beta hex with a bit of gravel. seem to be adjusting ok, they're scrounging through the gravel like normal.

Get them out of there. They'll get stunted.

i recommend putting a fake fish. less than one gallon and if youre just gonna change the water when it gets cloudy, i don think anything will be able to handle....
put a rock and attach purple string!! pet rock

I saw a fake fish bowl once, the fish were neutral boyant. They had movable fins and and magnets in them, so they moved around the bowl because of the magnetic fields in the bowl. Looked almost real.

Heterandria formosa, these are what tricksterpup recommended to me. They are very small livebearers with males getting up to an .8 inches and females 1 1/2 inches. In a 1 gallon aquarium there probably wouldnt be a problem with 5, and best of all they are native to the united states and can take large temperature changes.
