Recommend A Good Cannister

There is the H.O.T Magnum that would work good, i have 2 in my 100 gallon, and 2 on my 125 gallon with a magnum 350 and a micron filter that i use with Diatom powder.

I agree with the HOT magnum too.

I too use 2 on my 100gal FW planted tank.

I'm rather partial to the Rena XP filters as a compromise of good quality and reasonable cost. An XP3 may serve your purpose - I run a pair of them on my 210g.

how do you guys get the hot to work so well, what kind of fish is in there? i got the hot with the biowheel and still dotn think it should be on anything over a 40 gallon. you can get a filstar like raskol said, the big one i think its the xp3. or spend some money for the best and get the new eheim.

I agree with Raskolnikov. I ahve a FilstarXP2 on my 55 and am happy with the results. I'm sure the eheim is a quality product , but not sure if it's really worth that much more, and the filter media is pricier too.

When I started in the hobby about 3 years ago, I researched all the canisters available at the time. I was leaning toward the Eheim, but ended up buying the filstar. I chose the Filstar because at the time, it was the only canister filter with easy pull out baskets for easy cleaning. The Eheim didn't appear to have that, and it looked like a real pain in the butt to clean and for a beginner like me at the time. The Filstars are also self priming, extremely quiet, and I like the shut off feater if the motor starts to over heat. 3 years later, I have an XP2 and XP3 running on my 100 gal. tank with 2 very messy oscars, 1 jack dempsey, and 1 large common pleco. They've never let me down, and I would buy another one tomorrow.

Well stated

I LOVE Rena filters. I would buy them again in a heartbeat.

I Have two Xp2's. One on 55 and one on 30G. Great filters and easy to use!!!

Good Luck

I do not use the Bio-wheel. I do use the out-let made for the bio-wheel. I have a heavily planted tank with CO2, so do not want that much water movement.

PS--If you change/clean the filter often then the flow is better.
