I don't even want to use a bucket to do WCs for my 10g QT anymore. For my 40g, I use a combo of a Python and a MaxiJet 1100 pump (295gph). I don't have patience, so I use a pump to speed up draining.

I'll buy another Python but pumps at Drs Foster are somewhat expensive. Are there decent pumps under $20?

The reason why I'm buying a 2nd Python and a 2nd pump is I don't want to share equipment between the QT and the main tank.

Just get a generic pump. I picked up and Otto powerhead from LFS for about $30 and pumps 700gph. You can also get cheap ones off ebay.

Staying away from brand names doesn't always mean a cheaply made unit. Sometimes it is the same as a brand name one only without a logo or recognized name.

That sounds like a great deal! Brand name 700gph pumps would cost me $50-$60.

i have bought several NEW rio 1700+ pumps 642gph off ebay the last few months for less than 20.00 shipped

Thanks everyone. I see many pumps < $20 on eBay. I'll buy one of them.
