What types of fish would be good for a 15-20 gallon tank? And how many of them? I would like some fish at all parts of the tank eg. top, bottom and middle. Thanks.

You could have some livebearers, like guppies or platies, a small school of cory cats or otos and some hatchetfish for the top of the tank.

Here's two plans:
1. 4 Cories
6 guppies
3 hatchet fish

2. 6 otos
6 platies
3 hatchetfish

Give or take a few fish. And of course you couldn't add them all at once.

I would choose one fish and which i miss mine dearly is a Bronze pufferfish  they have the most personality of all the fish. With alot of waterchanges then they can live for 15+yrs and they can live their full life in a 20 gal. they only get 4"....but that would be the only fish you can have with it they are real aggressive...

OR

you can do some dwarf puffers(pea puffers) they only get about 1" so you could do about 5 or so of them but they also need a good amount of waterchanges. But you can add other fish in with them like plecos or what not...

Hope This Helps!

i would go with the hatchet fish for the top, and some dwarf platy's for the middle with cory's for the bottom.

Another interesting fish that would inhabit the bottom of the tank is the khuli loach. These guys need to be in groups, but they stay small so you could easily have a group of four or five in your tank. Khuli loaches have great personalities. :)

Platies will swim everywhere. I would get 4-6 Platies and 4-6 Peppered or Panda Corys. Maybe a few Otos for algea control.

if I had the aquarium, i'd get:
1 gourami (any species under 4" )
5 prisella tetras
and 1-2 khulii loaches for the bottom.

but thats just me, most of the reccomendations here would work.
