recommendations for flea treatment for a dog

I need some recommendations for some good flea treatments for our Ollie-dog.

Something is up with the fleas this year. Last year, Frontline Plus was pretty effective, killing most of the fleas appeared. However, this year has been different. The fleas seem to be more resistant to it. More fleas around (our neighbor's **** cat keeps going into our yard to "hangout") and they just won't die.

I gave Ollie a bath last Friday, applied FP and vacuumed the entire house on Monday, and three days later he's still itching, biting, and licking. I made sure I parted his fur as much as I could so it would be applied to his skin. Of course, some of it works its way up to the fur but it wasn't different from the other times we've applied it.

We feel terrible when we see Ollie miserable. There's also flea dirt all over our floors. Other than giving him bathes every week, I don't know what else we can do to relieve him of fleas.
 
That would be a good question for your local vet since they are probably aware of which products are working well in your area and which are not. Vets do track that kind of thing ...
 
treat your yard and perhaps your dog with seven dust, make sure you get the 10 on the bag as they have cut the formula to 5 now but our local walmart carries bothe in 5 lb. bags.. it will kill the fleas and other creatures with exoskeletons. with diantomus (sp) earth.. same stuff used in garden for veggies and is safe in moderation for humans.. as its for puting on cabbage, and as it grows it folds over powder so we are still living so far used it for years, can use it for carpets, just read bag and see, can't remember what it says, been a few years since i've used it..
 
I had a cat that was allergic to all flea products.

I wound up using a flea comb. It did catch all the fleas. I put flea powder where she slept and made her a new bed after I combed all the fleas out.
 
also you don't want a flea spot on that repells fleas unless you dog is outside a lot, if it repels them they won't jump on the dog and bite, so to die after, get it? so the ones in the house stay away and bite you to feed,..
the vet here tried to sell me that and i wasn't buying it since my cats don't go out side they don't need it so it will help get number down in the house,.

but if the dog goes out a lot it will help keep other outside from comming in,? i would limit outside for a while to get some months of use out of the meds.. to treat the infestations.. as they can live in your house dormant for years,..
 
mine were infested last month and I got Adams flea and tick spray and gave them all haircuts and baths followed by the flea spray then put Zema flea collars on them and they are no longer scratching and whining. I give them another adams spray once a week. It has made a big difference.
 
I used Sentinal(chewable monthly tablet) for years on my dogs and never had a problem untill this year(just a bad year I guess). The vet recommended a new monthly tablet called Comfortis he just started carrying. Both my dogs have been on it now for 2 months and I have seen no fleas and no itching & biting,worked great for my 2 guys.

we use frontline plus on our cats and it works well, a lot better than that advantage crap.

Where is socal is this super strain of fleas? I need to keep my animals out of that area lol
