Red Cherry Shrimp - Secret

My first foray into cherry shrimp ended in disaster well for all the shrimp at least but one... I call her godzilla. Yeah I know stupid to name a shrimp but you should see this beast! She is big super red and apparently bullet proof cause she survived all my mistakes and just kept growing!

I finally gave in about 3 weeks ago and got some more shrimp after reading and looking on here forever- well today I look in the tank and guess what godzilla is berried!!!

Yup! I have lots of saddled females but I have NEVER ever had a berried one ever - please don't let me screw this up... I really want to see them babies!!!

I hope my reign as the " great shrimp killer" is over !! Someone else can have that title!!!

I am so sorry to hear that. I have heard that they need hard water too.

This area is known for hard water. 7.8 coming out of the tap is the lowest I get

Hey does anyone have experience with Red cherry shrimps with Marimo moss ball? how do they do. Will they breed in a ten gallon tank with about 5 of those and some fake plants? (sorry for threadjacking your post)

I have found that Red cherries will breed in almost all conditions but the number one killer is overfeeding. The water parameters may test out fine (in a variety of pH ranges) but all the shrimps can die off anyway. I almost killed off all of mine that way when starting out with them. The shrimps hardly need additional food as they eat the microflora/fauna in the tanks.

ucng: your set up with marimo balls is great for the shrimps! Keep your water well aerated and the feeding to a minimum and you should have lots o'shrimp in no time!
