hey everyone,

i had an old red devil tht passed away recently.... i sold my tank and was out of the hobby. i had an old 29 gallon layin around so i set it up and bought a baby Jag(only about 1 inch). i obviously plan on movin him to a 75 gallon or hopefully a 125 if all goes according to plan.... i have to Questions though. 1) how long should i be able to keep him in my 29 gallon, and 2)can i put in a red devil around the same size as him in the 29 gallon tank? or should i just put another baby jag in..... thanks all

I wouldn't do anything until you have at least a 100+ tank.

Agreed, keep it as is and definetly plan on upgrading. Jags can be pretty fast growers.
Yeah Red Devils are from the New World also and they are compatible. Even tho Jags grow up to 1' 6" so you would need a 50 gallon minimum. go with what bloodthirsty said

i put them together and there doing fine for now, im keepin a close eye on em' tho... i get my big tank on tuesday so im lookin forward to that... thanks for all the help

You're going to need a huge tank to keep a RD and JAG together. I would say a minimum 75 gallons for the RD and 125 for the JAG meaning a 200 gallon is what I would want to go...especially considering the aggressiveness of those species.

I would just keep one, the RD if you get a 75 gallon, or the JAG if you get the 125 gallon.

Otherwise one will likely kill the other anyway. Best of luck!

I dissagree with what everyone else is saying... i have a red devil and jag together in my 55... no problems whatsoever... but i also have some jag/jack mixes that i keep in there so the bullying is spread out... both the RD and the jack are 8in+++ If you buying them small like 1-2 inches they could survive in a 29 for a year or so... after that id recommend a 75 at least...

I've never kept a Jag,but my male red devil would SHRED any other fish I tried in his tank.I had to keep him solitary in his 200 gallon.
All fish are individuals of course so your mileage may vary.
