I have a 9"TL Red devil/ midas, was supposedly a RD but I'm quite sure it's a hybrid like most. He is becoming too much of a bully and looks like he's going to need his own tank, (currently in a 110 with syns, and a chocolate). I don't currently have the $ to get a 75+gal but I have a 55 I could put him in. I really don't want to get rid of him either as he is a really cool fish, and will probably be able to get him something larger hopefully ina yr or so. I know it is absolutely not ideal and maybe not even smart, but would I be able to keep the RD in a 55 g by himself. It's a standard 55g so its only 12" wide. Would he at least be able to live moderately comfortably in there for a year or so until I can do something better? Would it stunt his growth, and if so, severely and cause health problems? I keep pretty good maintenance of the tanks and would probably take even been care if that were the case.

well, I guess you could keep him there 4 a while...

if it's citrinellus, it 'should' grow to 13+ inches in which case a 55 will work but only work for about another year.

I think he will be a big boy. Liv2padl, so I could get away with putting him in there without really harming him until he reaches about what 11" or so, or what do you think?

It's better than the other fish having to put up with being bullied. Just be sure you keep up with the massive and frequent water changes.

 It's gonna keep you busy with W/C's but it's better he be by himself in the '55 till you can upgrade. He'll only get more aggressive towards the others in the '110' as he grows!! Good Luck
