Red Flashlight

I found a nice LED headlamp at walmart for $15 in the sporting goods section. It has regular white LED's and a switch to change to a red LED. I probably look like a HUGE geek with this thing strapped to my head while I stare at my tank for hours at a time... eh... whatever, I LOVE IT! :)

At sears hardware they sell a black metal flashlight with a knurled handle and there is an led as the bulb. The led is easily removable and you could go to radioshack and pick up a red led for the red effect.
 
blind you?? than why do they use em in bowling alleys etc?? and sell them with all the glowing accessories, like at spencers??
 
Well, most black lights in the aquarium trade are used for UV sterilizers, and when they are incorrectly used, they can blind you. Keep in mind that the light in UVs is intended to kill organisms.
 
uv sterilizers are at a particular nanometer in the light spectrum and that particular wave of uv kills the organisms if they are a certain distance from the light and viewed through a quartz tube that does not absorb uv.

The lights at laser tag places and bowling alleys and the lights that they sell at biggs and krogers are at a differnt end of the spectrum and not damaging.

Still though, uv sterilizers and cd players can emit uv light so be careful around them.
