red gills?

I don't have a nitrate test I'm far to broke to afford anything more for now. I trust this guy, if something wasn't right on the nitrate he'd tell me. The problem is persisting. The gills are still crazy red, but the fish are acting normal, no sign of the water parameters being off, like they aren't acting like there is a problem with the water. I don't think it's the water... anything else that could cause red inflamed gills?

There is high chance it's parasites if your ammonias 0. Is there any way to get a pic?

Never mind can't get a pic, the danios are just too fast and it is easiest to see it on them. Sorry any way of helping without pics?

well you can't rule out ammonia unless you have the water tested, so that could still be the issue

Zero nitrate is also an issue meaning either you have that one plant taking in all the nitrogen output in the tank (highly unlikely) or some sort of anaerobic activity going on (not impossible but not very likely)...another possibility is that the test wasn't done correctly.

Actually, did you happen to have the tests done after all the water changes? Could account for the readings.

Yes the test was done after water changes. but it ISN'T the water. It isn't 0 nitrates, idk what the test read as but i know it's within the normal range. There is nothing off about the water. Other possible causes for fish to have red irritated gills? Again it isn't the water parameters...

chloramine INTOXICATION
Other names: None

Type of disesase: Chloramine intoxication is not a disease. It is actually a water quality issue.

Causes: From chlorine contained in tapwater or from adding chlorinated water to a tank containing ammonia.

Symptoms: Flashing. Gasping. Rapid breathing. Red gills. Pale body colour. Body may appear rough and irritated. Fish usually die with gills wide open.

are you using a water conditioner, and the correct amount, when doing water changes?
