RED HOT MIDAS from FLORIDA

MMMMMM chichlid arggggggggg. (drools like Homer Simpson) How did they taste? I heard they're a nice flaky white fish, with hardly any "fishy" taste at all.

That's cool man, I was recently in Florida and caught a bunch of puffers in a nearby canal. Quite a thrill for an Ohio boy such as myself. (You should have seen my face when the baby manatee came up right in front of me.)

Yeah? So, they've been an established Exotic down in FL like soooooooo many other species for quite a while now, ya know like Oscars.
Are we boring you Nataku? Come on man, if our stories and observations are too "old hat" for you then do us all a favor, save some bandwidth and DON'T POST, or come up with a nicer way to impart your so-called wisdom.

I'll stick with what I've been doing thanks very much "Mr. Apisto expert". Its pretty common knowledge though that there are a very large number of exotics taking a foothold down in FL. Sure its a pretty fish, but they should have been left in tanks to begin with.

What does common knowledge have to do with someone posting pics. He never said, "look there are cichlids in the water here in Florida". It's just a catch he's showing. Nice catch tankmadness, have you caught any other cichlids? I do strongly agree with you NakatuTseng they should have been left in the tanks as well as many other fish.

wow, the color on those fish look awesome. i live about 4 hours away from miami & hope to go down there someday.

Well, I've never claimed to be an apisto expert. Apisto freak, apisto fanatic, apisto crusader....yes. Although I've read virtually everything I could find written on the genus I am far from an expert, and if I come off that way, I apologize. I always try to phrase my advise on subjects that I don't have personal experience with using terms like: I have read, I have heard, or I have been told. Do I mention apistos too often in my posts? Probably, its a sickness really, but one that a lot of people here can probably relate to. I just feel they're under appreciated in the hobby, and will continue to push them to people interested in SA dwarfs.
Sorry :OT:

Nataku, truce. Your experience is invaluable to this forum, I just feel that sometimes it could be stated in a more amiable tone. Hope we can move past our differences of opinion. In the future, i'll keep my netiquette comments to myself.

Well done, everyone. Almost a flame war, and yet, it did not happen. Makes a moderator happy to be irrelevant.

P.S. Agree about the exotics, but gosh, unless
those shots have been altered for color, those are
pretty good-looking Midas. I wonder what they are
getting to eat down there that makes them so
orange?

:spam: Who ever said you were irrelevant Mr harry.... :joke:

I'm sure they eat an abundance of grass shrimp i.e.- ghost shrimp. Very rich in beta carotene. They would have a lot to do with color. Those are gorgeous fish though.
Also- Oscars are very good to eat. I feel kind of funny filleting them out, but once the skin is gone, the look just like any other Bream or Crappie fillet.
