Red Lines in GoldFish

Thanks Flaringshutter :) Hope they get well soon.

Btw what fish is that in your icon/logo? Is it a Koi? It looks exceptionally good :)

Think that's her comet Napoleon. He's a very handsome fella.

I'm so glad your fish seems to be doing well.. responding. Time will tell, of course, but it doesn't seem to be getting worse now from the updates you've given us. So that's very encouraging.

Keep us posted! :)

Hi Kashta and FlaringShutter,

Something strange happening with my fishes. Today I noticed some scales missing, gill cover eaten a bit and gills swollen a bit too. I suspect it could be because of external parasite. Am I correct? I also suspect I am the culprit :( I brought plants a month back, but before planting I washed them and later my fishes ate them completely in a week.
I have good external parastie medicines, can I use them? I am treating them with tetracycline, will it be compatible?
Please advice.

PS bare with me,I could not take good photos, red cap was flashing and trying to jump.

Thanks
Gokul

Gokul, I don't think external parasites are to blame. At this point, although the photos are unclear, I suspect ulcer disease - a bacterial problem. The symptoms fit - reddening at fin bases and belly of fish, missing scales and sores on the body. Your tetracycline should be effective. That is what has me confused. I wonder why your fish are getting worse when they should be getting better. Hm... Are you still using carbon in your filter, or have you removed it already?

Flaringshutter, Sorry for the unclear picture. I will try to share a good picture today.
I have removed the carbon long back and have only sponge in place. Will this be an issue?

Thanks
Gokul

Not an issue at all, GokulK. Carbon is most often used to pull medications out from the water column AFTER fish are treated and the meds are no longer needed. Flaringshutter asked the question, I'm sure, to find out if carbon was present, which may interfere with the tetracycline treatment you're using.

We try to look at all the possibilities we can to figure out the best advice we can offer.

Hope your fish get better real soon!

Hi Again,

My Fishes are recovering great :)

My brother have 2 common gold fish for last 2 years in a 25G tank. I went to his place after couple of weeks, found his fishes sick. Have uploaded those photos under the same album.
I suspect it is some Gill disease, they have lost color drastically, they seems to eat fine.
What I did was removed carbon and add plenty of salt, changed water and add some tetracycline. I am sure this is not a fix,but changing water and adding salt will reduce the stress.

Your advice is certainly required.
