Red Lobster/ Red swamp cray

they're a cray that i would love to have and if i spotted one would be in my tank the same day, that being said they tend to not be fish friendly, i had one in my 10g for almost a year(started as a 3/4" long baby, ended at a 5") and he only occasionally caught fish and those were mostly dead already but they are capable hunters when they get hungry

That's the ticket right there...keep them fed and they won't chase your fish (although if one lands in his lap...that he can grab hold of...he'll eat it...usually male guppies and other similar slow swimmers). I had two in my old tank...a red and blue, and plan on getting two for this tank too, although I'm going for either hoa rivers or blue moons. What I did was made ABSOLUTELY sure that whatever cave they were hiding out in got a specific piece of whatever I was feeding...usually a chunk of frozen food. They do occasionally get aggressive with pleco's...but it's more like they're defending themselves from the whip tail lol. They also absolutely require a hiding place...however you could do like I am and put the 'cave' right up against the glass...so you can always see them. There are far brighter/better colors than the reds...but if he's local and you want him, go for it =).

Hope that helps man!

guppies are the only fish i have kept with crays with out any real problems.

Darn! I thought they were some exotic species, but they're just plain old Misissippi mud bugs lol...

P. clarkii is one of the most colourful crays i've ever seen, including blue ones, for some reason they just don't impress me much but a red clarkii in full battle colours is a beautiful cray.

From what I understand though, the clarkii's can get pretty aggressive when older...not based on my own experience though.

This is the one I'm getting:
