Red Ludwigia Problems

Thanks

Thanks for the replies. Blinky, I am using the screw in bulbs yon mentioned. I thought that they would provide plenty of light, but I guess I was wrong. I'll try switching to stronger bulbs. As far adding N, I don't have very many plants so I didn't think I would need more. I'll do another check to see where the levels are at.

Thanks,

Zonker

I thought this was my thread from the past! I posted a thread with the same title early last year.

I had problems getting ludwigia to grow in my tank as well. The bottom leaves would die, and then the stems would rot close to the substrate. In my case it was due to a lack of light. I had 1.5 wpg and it just wasn't enough for the red ludwigia to grow.

Light is definitely part of the issue. 15w isn't enough. You might want to look at AHSupply.com, especially their 36w retrofit kit. Should fit over a 10g and can be retrofit into your current light fixture. And they're nice kits.

Also, most folks use Stump Remover for KNO3 (make sure its the KNO3 type), available at Lowe's, HD, garden centers, etc. May be a little hard to find in the winter.

That should take care of Potassium and Nitrates both. If you still want more Potassium after you've dosed Nitrates, then NoSalt (KCl) is a good source.
