Hi, A week or so ago there were some pictures of a Red Severum posted. Really beautiful fish. Since then I have been trying to find information on them and can't find them anywhere except on one auction site. Can anyone give me any info about them. Are they a hybrid? Thanks for your help

Yes, That is the one. Thanks for responding, sorry couldn't remember your id. Do you have any place you can read about I can't find any reference to them in any of the books, or online, except one guy who is selling them. Where did you get yours?
I even asked several of the LFS, they tried to find it in their books and couldn't, thought I was nuts. the name I have is heros sp. rotkiel. I just love this fish, and am thinking for trying to breed them, but I need to be able to prove to the LFS that they exist and aren't a hybrid of some kind. Thanks for your help,

No, they aren't hybrid. They are considered newly discovered.
I bet your LFS has no idea there are many kinds of severums. They probably think there is only one kind, called Heros Severus. The Heros Severus they referred to has to be those green/turquoise Severums you see at the store. Those aren't real Heros Severus but Heros Appendiculatus.
I happened to find this girl at my LFS. They didn't know she is a Rotkeil. When I got her, she looked like any normal Green Severum. After I have her in the tank for a month...being fed good food, she started to color up for me. Just one day, I saw her head almost all red. Then I knew I accidentally found a Rotkeil. The other 2 Rotkeils in my tank, I got them from Jeff Rapps.

Is Jeff the guy selling off his website? You are right LFS all of them said only Green, Torquise and Gold Severums. I will continue checking on the net for a listing in a database. Thanks for your help.

Thanks peifc, my husband and I both really enjoyed your pics & video. How old is she? (full grown?) How many do you have, and in how big a tank.
She is a year old or so. Right now is about 5"+
I have 3. She is the oldest one. The other 2 is less than a year old.
She is in the 55g tank right now with other cichlids I'm growing out. She is very peaceful amount small guys, but she doesn't like other female severums. She had attacked my female Green Severum in the past. The reason I seperated them.
