Hey guys...I have a ten gallon nano reef that has been up for about a month and a half...I have had live rock in it for about three weeks. Now I noticed I have some red slime algae growing on the sand. How do I get rid of this crap

Manual removal, water changes and top offs with RO water, increased water movement/current and patience.

I tried manually removing it. I thought I got most of it but after a couple of days it sprang back. I have a filter for circulation @ 100gph and a powerhead @ 100gph. This is all for a 10 gallon nano. I am going to increase my water changes two twice a week. The tank has only been up for almost 2 months. I would put on a protein skimmer if they made one small enough for my tank. Does anyone know of a DIY way to make one?
A skimmer would make a lot of difference. When the Venturi on mine clogged, the nitrate went up, and I started seeing cyano. It all got better when the skimmer was running again.
You might also think about a refugium. CPR makes a nice HOB model, if you have room for it. Put some playsand, critters and chaetomorpha algae and it will help sop up excess nutrients.
As Brian said, patience is also a component. The tank is still settling down, and the cyano will probably decrease as the tank matures.
