has anybody got any experience with these fish?
i have been advised they would grow to aboutv 24" in captivity!!!
also is the growth rate the same as a pure rtc.

they'll get a lot bigger than that, 3'+ i'd imagine knowing how big TSN's and RTC's get.
you'll probably find the growth rate will be high, but not as high as a pure strain RTC

Not sure about the hybrid...but I've got a Tiger Shovel Nose Cat who is 11" now and has been growing at least an inch every month!!!!

I've never heard of this hybred either, but Imagine it will get huge as was said. TSN's are listed as everywhere from 37"to 50+, I have seen these fish at 50+ in pictures, they are an awesome fish, on the 24inch tank something to think about is the TSN will panic if it can't spread out it's feelers, when they panic they often swim right through the end of the tank. I know you are a long way fom that point, but be aware when this fish gets big that the 24" deep tank may not work.

Red Tail Tiger Shovelnose Hybrid

I have had both a tiger shovelnose and a red tail tiger shovelnose hybrid for about a month now. Both have grown at least an inch, with the red tail tiger shovelnose having grown the most. Put it this way, the aggressive nature and hungry nature that the red tail is known for is not wasted on my hybrid! He was about 5 inches when I got him. I tried to keep him on pellets and dried shrimp, but he wasn't happy. Then I added two 5 inch clown knives. That evening, he ate the first one - I came around and saw his belly pumped out and the tip of the clown knife's tail sticking out of his wide mouth. The next evening, he ate the other clown knife. All of the plants and rocks that I had put into the tank for hiding places didn't work well. Now I've given up on pellets and shrimp, and am feeding goldfish feeders. In the daytime, he and the tiger shovelnose just lay around - but turn out the lights after dark, and they turn into predatory "sharks," cruising all around the tank looking for something to eat. Still, wouldn't trade him for anything - very cool fish...
