I am very aware of this and know that it is reported that there south american cousins have been reported to somethimes grow to 5 feet in the home aquarium. I went back there today and desided it wasn't worth it. When I get one it will be south american.MonoSebaelover said:Just please be aware of their adult size. They get monsterous and fish DO NOT grow to the size of their tanks. If they do it is because Nitrate is SO high that it finally inhibits their growth, but given good water quality they will grow to adult size. I worked at a fish store several years ago and this guy brought in an 8" pleco, and 2 8" Bala Sharks and they came out of a 10g tank! If that tells ya anything.... Back to the topic. I love red tails but I personally wouldn't put one in anything less than a swimming pool (no I am not exagerating!). I think they are awesome little fish and acquire such awesome personalities. If you are asking for basic info, I would HIGHLY recommend googling them and looking up as much info as possible to ensure this is a commitment you want to partake in! Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide!
