Red Tail Shark attacking anything that moves...

I always thought it was funny that my little red tail shark was able to chase around a gold tinfoil barb 5x his size. The barb was scared to death of the shark, and would ram his head into the side of the tank trying to get away. Not one of my smarter fish for sure.


I'm going to try to keep the shark happy by himself. Maybe put a crayfish in there for company. Hope it works out. He's still my favorite fish even if he can't tolerate any roommates!

Looks like they are neutrally bouyant and float around the tank w/the current.

Anybody know of anything similar? I wonder if the shark would try to attack these. lol

lol... I actually have those in my tank. My 9 year old wanted them. My ADF floats with them sometimes.

I have my RTBS in a 30G tank with a Large Gold Severum. The shark is about 3 inches yet he will not bother the Severum as it is quite a bit thicker and Larger. In fact, when the shark comes near the severum during feeding time he usually bullies the shark out of the way and the shark satisfies himself by going down to the bottom and eat.

The morale I guess is, as long as you put the shark in with other fish that can basically kit it's but or hold their own, you should be ok.

i have 2 red tailed sharks also they run away from my other fish its cute to watch them wim away from everyone else

a red tailed shark chased the tinfoil barb because tinfoils are not aggressive and the shark knows this. like i said fish arent dumb and they know who to pick on and who no too.
you can change your tank mates and get more aggressive fish or keep him alone. hmm its a 20 gallon you say that he will be in by himself? im trying to think what stays under 5" that is aggressive...a female convict stays pretty small. you can group him with a few female convicts but no males! other wise they will breed and kill your shark. the easy way to tell female convicts is to look at the belly, they are a noticable orange pinky red, males lack this.
