I bought a new fish today he is a beautiful full grown red tailed rasbora. My LFS only had one left so he doesnt have anybody to school with at the moment. The other LFS in town has brilliant rasboras in stock, they are a bit smaller that he is and they lack the red tail, but does anyone know from experience if they will school together? Im not sure if I will be able to find another red tailed rasbora around here.

I have them mostly in my pond and these fish love to chase each other. They relish mostly the insects that fall to the water.:)

i am loving the way this fish acts so far. he has been all alone in a tank in the LFS for three weeks now. I finally got up the courage to buy him today. He just needs some buddies to swim with. From what I understand, there are brilliant rasboras without the red tails. petco has them here. I can't remember the scientific name but it is different from the red tailed ones.

I have 5 of them in my 50 gallon tank and i love watching them swim around together.

They're a really nice fish!

that is a fantastic picture. what is the secret to taking such excellent pictures? I have a decent camera but mine always seem to come out blurry. either that or the fish moves at the last second and I don't get the picture.

If you can adjust the ISO speed of your camera, I set mine to 1600. turn off all the lights in the room (accept the tank light) and than just follow the fish around with a shutter speed of 40 to 60.

And than i just snap em. I use a Canon Rebel XT (350D) with a 60MM Macro

I picked up 8 of these guys several months ago at pet smart for $0.99! They have been very nice active schoolers. However 2 of them now have developed tumors on their heads. The first on got so big he couldn't eat anymore :(. Fish seemed otherwise completely healthy, perhaps that is why they were only $0.99 :/
