red terror

yeah hes shy he hides behind some plants....and is kinda pictular about what he eats.....and his stripes get darker when his mood changes

Mine is not shy at all, he attacks danios that are larger than him  and usually comes to the front of tank when I come close. That is what is cool about cichlids, the different personalitys.

Hey Captain, nice fish. That Terror is a Urothalmus (False Red Terror). Can't tell the sex. I have a couple of them. It will get to be 10-12" in the right size tank. I've had mine for a year now in my 150g and they're about that size.I know I have one female but, that's just because she paired up with my male Red Devil. Wish I could be of more help.

If someone is a top breeder of Festae and can't tell the difference, he isn't a top breeder after all. Festae purist almost never get it wrong, of which i am. Been one since 1977. The differences between Wild/F1 Festae and Uros are unmistakeable. 3rd generation and on I don't buy because the colors really become diluted by then due to inbreeding, poor diet, and inexperienced hobbyist. Pond bred Festae also tend to wash out in coloration over time. Farm bred specimens from genetically different stock is a very good 3rd option after wild caught and F1.
If you've owned both species you'd also know that they have different behavioral and environmental habits. The fighting styles and breeding dress are different. If you've never fallen in love with Festae, then you might get fooled by an exceptionally colored Uro. But once you've gotten the True Festae fever, even the best looking Uros will never measure up.
