Alright. I'm a newbie and I'm having a tough time finding info on Red Terrors. I think I've been looking in the wrong places...

Hopefully you folks can answer some of my questions.

How big do they get?
What size tank should they be in?
Are they terrors to their tankmates like green terrors are?

Thanks for any help that you can provide.

scientific name: Cichlasoma uropthalmus (u may have more luck finding info with that name)

grows to around 9"

55 gallon would work but the bigger the better

yes they are extremely aggressive. from experience I wouldnt say they are as crazy as green terrors but every fish has a different personalities, and they are definately aggressive

re:

good work risk, its true they are as crazy as GT, both come from ecuador, well gt from peru too but more form ecuador, and red terrors, the true red terrors just from ecuador, but there are the fake red terror from central america. love this fish, i have two wild (male n female) caught in one of my tanks in ecuador.

the correct name is faestae or something like that. if ur getting it from petco or petsmart you will be getting the fake red terror

Thanks for all of the info.

I did research on both the "real" and "fake" red terrors and they sound like interesting fish. I've been looking for the right fish to go in my 75 gallon and I think that Cichlasoma festae is it...

Any suggestions for tankmates and setups from you experienced keepers? Could I try a pair or would that be pushing it in a 75? With them growing to 18" each, I doubt I could keep anything but the one red terror in the 75. Would the 75 be too small?
