Hi All

well i am sure this question has been covered, however the reading and pic's i have looked at dont explain what they are. Found in my canister filter - none in the tank.

description - about half an inch long, some are white-ish some are red, very thin, i dont think its larva from a midge fly as we dont have them here.

it could be planaria but the ones in my tank look smoother than the photos i have seen.

any other names i could google

thanks in advance

They're free food. Lucky dog.

They're live blood worms. They're harmless and good eats for the fishies ;)

this i am then very happy about , but how did they get there, i have never put live blood worms in the tank, no new plants no new fish no new food, i am truly confused

there are many different varieties of detritus worms, and that's what you most likely have living in your filter - they like to hang out where the most mulm & dirt is.

having these worms in your filter most likely indicates that you need to increase your filter maintenance/cleaning. just be sure to rinse all your media in a bucket of tank water.

when my hob filters get a little cruddy i rinse all the plastic parts under tapwater, with no ill effects to my fish.

thanks very much fish/betta that sounds about right, i made a diy 12liter canister filter, works like a bomb, i noticed today it was sending out fine particles into the tank, so i decided to clean it, and yes hyou are both correct its cleaning was well over due.

thanks for the advise.
