I do think they have cyanobacteria, but dino has bubbles as well. There are some great photos of it in an article here: http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86128
Well, one of the mods on here is at 150x per hour, so I am sure he would say yes. hahaha. But really, you should start out at least in the 10-20x range.

we've been looking into inverts that we can put in the tank, what could we put in (30 gals) that might keep the substrate stirred up. We'd like a starfish but I don't know if any of them stay small enough.

Nope, no starfish for that size. You can go with sand sifting gobies, nassarius snails, cerith snails, and conchs to name a few things.
well currently the only sand-sifter i have is a boyfriend with a stick. LOL

Reading the recommendations, increase protein skimming......my skimmer is acting up/not working at its max efficiency since i cleaned it and broke the venturi pipe. I am in the process of repairing it but will be buying another bigger one soon.
Maybe this could be one of my problems along with over feeding???
