Refilling Hagen or Red Sea Co2 Bio-system.

Do I absolutely have to buy the offical Hagen/Red Sea "activator" refills, or could I simply add my own sugar and baker's yeast to the once it's depleted? Is there something about the official refills (that are 8 bucks a pop online!) or those pre-assembled bio Co2 systems themselves that would be ruined if I were to use my own yeast and sugar to reduce refilling cost?

You don't need to use their refills. Their Co2 systems are no different than the DIY soda bottle systems, save the fancy canister.

I like the hagen though i have never used the red sea.
