Refitting 10 gal aquarium

Unless 36 Watts is an absolute necessity a company named Coralife makes a 28 Watt ready-made strip light available on HelloLights.com

Here it is installed on my newly planted 10 Gal with a 6700K bulb.

Will the light fixture fit into a standard hood?

I have a hood that you can take the light fixture off.

WOndering if the coralife fixture will fit into it.

Quartermain that looks really nice. How often do you have to top off the tank? Do you lose a lot to evaporation?

That makes me want a 10g :) Shhhh don't tell my wife!

AH has superior reflectors. I use several of the 36 watt kits on 10gs. They are great.

They are made to retrofit right into the existing light fixture that comes on a 10g tank. You have to gut the old light from it (so its just the empty black plastic shell) and insert/wire in the new fixture from AH. This is what they're made for. It's really quite easy. All you need is a drill. They're cheap and great.

Here is the old fixture (came with tank):

Here's the same fixture with the new ah lights:

Here's how they look on the tank:

BTW - Yes, you would need a glass cover. They're like 15 bucks.

I have no experience with DIY stuff or the light installing. Will it be possible for somebody with no experience to put together the light? And how long did it take for you to do it, leopardess?

BTW, does it come with the light, or is that seperate?

The light bulb is separate. They sell them there.

They come with instructions (you might have to click the box to have it be sent) and should be okay with someone with no experience. I didnt' personally do it because I wasn't home when it got here, my fiance did. But he said it was easy and he's never wired anything before either. Push comes to shove, a post on here or on something like aquaticplantcentral would furnish dozens of people who've done it and can help you. Even I could if you had troubles.

As for how long it takes, I think it took like half an hour the first time they did it; that includes the drilling and stuff. You just have to drill a hole for the wires to go through...I am sure there's some way around it if you don't have a drill, though.

Ok, thanks for the help!

BTW, what fixture do you have in the picture above there? Is that a 2x 36 watt 17 inch?

The fixture I posted is the single, standard 36 watt kit. It fits exactly on a 10g tank.
