Refractometer or hygrometer "HELP"

STUPID HYDROMETERS!!!

After this thread started I got curious...Also I rinse the stupid thing after every test...Went to LFS to test our water, 1.027!!! AHHHH. Chock this one up to the original LFS we went to. He said keep our sg at 1.021, testing with hydrometer, believed him then did more research and found SW should be between 1.023 - 1.025 so over the month have been adjusting it to get a bit higher. Hydro readings were 1.023 or 1.024...thought hey doing good...Had a major diatom and thought it was Phosphates, testing every day and they were unmeasurable meaning 000. Any way bought a Refractometer last night and started bringing down our new tank since it read 1.027. We brought it down to 1.025. AAARRRGGG stupid LFS, I'm glad I have read till my eyes pop out(nothing to do at work)since the industry of LFS tend to Bulls***t enough!!! I like our new LFS, he is pretty good, but still test him and keep him on his toes...;)

PS Our new 72 gallon has almost run us $4000.0o from start till now. Still have to get a UV sterilizer...Does it ever stop???

HELP WITH REGARD TO HYGROMETER OR REFRACTOMETER I HAVE TWO HYGROMETERS ONE A FLOAT HYGROMETER THE OTHER A PLASTIC INDICATOR (SEA VIEW) BOTH SHOW MY SALINITY AS 1.022 AFTER READING YOUR THREAD I VISITED THREE LOCAL AQUARIST SHOPS TO CHECK MY WATER NON OF THEM HAD A REFRACTOMETER NOR SAW THE POINT OF THEM! SAYING THAT A FLOAT HYGROMETER WAS ADEQUATE ALL GAVE A READING OF BETWEEN 1.022 AND 1.023. NOW THE THING IS ARE THEY CORRECT AND IF NOT WHAT ARE THE SIGNS OF HIGH OR LOW SALINITY?

I think the other thing we have to do is prepare for a major power outage...just incase. My mom lives 3hrs away from me and they(3500 other people aswell)have been without power since yesterday morning!!! I love the hobby yet hate it at the same time...We are supposed to be getting 30cm of snow today...AAARRRGGG i'm so sick of winter...

Gman we bought an "Aquamedic" refractometer cause didn't want to make anymore mistakes...

AAAAAnd I think we might eventually turn our ten gallon into a home for a mated pair of Seahorses...lfs got some in but that is down the road of course...

Hubby wants a CChip sea star, i know we can't really have one but I told him I'm not doing the research for him, so he goes on Saltwaterfish.com and searched it up and the only thing he saw was Care level "easy", what a guy!!! Poor guy is gonna be upset when I say NO cause our corals are more important...LOL

Spend the extra $$$ if you can, the more accurate something is the less problem solving you have to do if something goes wrong...

Plus the refractometer is easier to use. Just needs a few drops of water, vs dunking the hydrometer and making sure there are no bubbles. Although I'll probably mark the hydrometer at the correct spot and use it when making up new water.

I have also heard if you clean it more often with vinigar and ro water it should be ok...
